Secular Spin–Orbit Resonances of Black Hole Binaries in AGN Disks

چکیده

The spin-orbit misalignment of stellar-mass black hole (sBH) binaries provide important constraints on the formation channels merging sBHs. Here, we study role secular resonance in evolution a sBH binary component around supermassive BH (SMBH) an AGN disk. We consider sBH's spin-precession due to $J_2$ moment introduced by circum-sBH disk within warping/breaking radius find that (obliquity) can be excited via between binary's orbital nodal precession and driven massive Using $\alpha$-disk model with Bondi-Hoyle-Lyttleton accretion, resonances typically occur for semi-major axis $1$AU, at distance $\sim 1000$AU $10^7$\msun SMBH. lead high obliquities, broad distribution spin-spin misalignments. However, note accretion is much higher than Eddington which results spin being too low trigger resonances. Thus, quite rare sBHs disks.

Black Hole Binaries

4.1.1 Scope of this review We focus on 18 black holes with measured masses that are located in X–ray binary systems. These black holes are the most visible representatives of an estimated ∼300 million stellar–mass black holes that are believed to exist in the Galaxy (van den Heuvel 1992; Brown & Bethe 1994; Timmes et al. 1996; Agol et al. 2002). Thus the mass of this particular form of dark mat...

Inventory of Black Hole Binaries

A small group of X-ray binaries currently provides the best evidence for the existence of stellar-mass black holes. These objects are interacting binary systems where the X-rays arise from accretion of material onto a compact object (i.e. an object with a radius of less than a few hundred km). In some favourable cases, optical studies of the companion star lead to dynamical mass estimates for b...

The Population of Viscosity– and Gravitational Wave–Driven Supermassive Black Hole Binaries Among Luminous AGN

Supermassive black hole binaries (SMBHBs) in galactic nuclei are thought to be a common by–product of major galaxy mergers. We use simple disk models for the circumbinary gas and for the binary-disk interaction to follow the orbital decay of SMBHBs with a range of total masses (M) and mass ratios (q), through physically distinct regions of the disk, until gravitational waves (GWs) take over the...

Angular Momentum Transport in Accretion Disks and Its Implications for Spin Estimates in Black Hole Binaries

The accretion flow in the disk dominated state of black hole binaries has peak temperature and luminosity which vary together in such a way as to indicate an approximately constant emitting area. The association of this with the last stable orbit gives one of the few ways to estimate spin when the mass of the black hole is known. However, deriving this radius requires knowledge of how the disk ...
